The Friends of the Elko County Library was formed in late 1988. The purpose of this organization shall be to maintain an association of persons interested in libraries; to focus attention on the library; to stimulate the use of the library’s resources and services; to receive and encourage gifts, endowments, and bequests to the library; to support and cooperate with the library in developing library services and facilities for the community; to lend legislative support where needed and to support the freedom to read as expressed in the American Library Association Bill of Rights.
The Friends of the Library conduct fundraisers. Funds go directly back to the library to purchase materials, equipment or programming.
Monthly meetings are held in the meeting room of the Elko County Library every 3rd Tuesday of each month at noon (September - May).

The Julia Doren Memorial Scholarship has been established by the Friends of the Elko County Library to honor her memory and commitment to the library.
Julia worked in all areas of the library and had a special place in her heart for the Bookmobile. Julia was President of the Friends of the Library for several years and worked hard for library advocacy.
The amount of this scholarship is $500.00 to a person who is taking higher education courses through attendance at a two/four year college, online courses or correspondence courses.

Membership is only $15 for 3 years and you can be as involved as much or as little as you wish to be.
